A mattress commercial in Spain (pretty sure shown on national TV) portrays a home birth.
I think the tagline reads something to the effect of "your bed is the most important place in the world".
Can you IMAGINE the backlash if something like this appeared in the US? Most mattress commercials in the US feature a skinny, middle-aged white woman lying leisurely or a glass of wine not being knocked over.
Looooooved the commercial! Thanks for sharing...
ReplyDeleteYeah, unfortunately, I also don't think that would go over very well here.
Thanks for the sidebar link love!!

ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my blog, Caitlin! I've actually secretly admired you for quite some time, so it means a lot to me. I'm not sure if you remember this, but last year we were riding the same bus when it took a detour, causing me to miss my stop. Although I could have been a real creep, you offered to give me a ride home, and I was so impressed by how nice you are (I even looked you up on Facebook to send you a thank you message, but then decided against it because I didn't want to affirm the creep aspect). Since then, I've seen you in the DU, in a Women's Studies colloquium, and at a Parity meeting I went to; each time, I'm reminded of how cool you are. Thanks for being a good example to BYU students of how to be open-minded.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for the commercial, it was very interesting... much more interesting than a glass of wine.
OMG! I've seen this commercial so many times! (I'm in Madrid right now.) It always leaves me speechless. And when I talk to Spaniards about it, they seem to have no problem with it.
