Wow, two articles in one day. You are the liberal voice of BYU.
And, by the way, the reason our infant mortality rates are some of the highest in the developed world is premature birth, due to multiples (free in vitro in Massachusetts, for example), teenage pregnancies, and smoking/drugs/alcohol pregnancies. Medicaid will cover low-income pregnant women, but if they eat/drink/smoke/do whatever they want when they're pregnant, there is a chance the babies will not survive.
I respectfully disagree with the above poster, Lauren R. I know of not one, not two, but THREE LDS mothers-to-be who cannot get by with just Medicaid because of either pre-existing or recently-developed maladies. They eat UBER healthily, and certainly do not smoke or drink. The truth is, Medicaid simply does not do enough to meet the needs of many people below the poverty line.
It's not fair to judge those less fortunate than we. It may make one feel better to summarily dismiss them as irresponsible drug abusers and drinkers, but the truth is, they may be more like us than you think ... give or take a few dollar signs.
It doesn't even sound like you are married to each other.
