But I'm a FEMINIST!

People! I am SO baby hungry. I do not know what is up with me lately. It is consuming all of my waking thoughts. At the sight of any baby, cute or ugly, I get a little teary-eyed. I love baby things. I love looking at baby clothes, toys, cribs, bottles, etc. and fantasizing about what I want to get when we decide to make the leap. I am constantly reading about homebirths, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, and I've even been researching midwives in the Utah County area and figuring out how much it will cost to have a baby right now. Austin got me the book, Green Baby, for my wedding, and I devour it about once a week. I want to have a reason to buy things like this.

On the other hand.... I've been married TWO MONTHS! It's not time yet. We are loving this stage of our lives. I love being able to get out and do whatever I need to without the hassle of lugging around a newborn. I love being with Tim and only with Tim. We're loving the newlywed stage. We're going to Washington DC in the summer so I can do an internship. I'm not done with college yet. I can't have a baby so young! I'm a feminist!

Please. Help me to get my mind off these little creatures! Moms. Tell me how I should wait and it's not that great, and sure babies are cute until they keep you up all night, and you stop having sex, etc. etc.

  1. what does having a baby have to do with being a feminist? also, does a true feminist put her husband's name first on their joint blog address? haha :)

  2. But babies are so precious and smooshy and aggghh!

My friend had one this week and I got to see them in the hospital and I nearly fell out of my chair with preciousness. I can't handle newborns right now with my 20 pound chunk hanging around.

  3. Hmmm... the risks and downsides of pregnancy. I wouldn't know anything about that...

  4. Sooo...I'm not quite sure what to put. Yes you may get less sleep, but not less sex. Actually, I think our love life was much more active during pregnancy, and that's saying something since we have a pretty active sex life as is. Not that you needed to know that, but...I just thought I would clear that up. Just to remind you, we got pregnant a lot faster than we thought we would, but things have turned out great. We love our little boy, and some how we have managed the school thing. Now granted, we have our rough days, and too often I am covered in his curdled milk/snot filled barf up...but life is good! His cute little smile can brighten any frustrating day, even if you really, Really, REALLY want to stay mad at the little goober! So there you have it, we are biased. Besides, Mason loves going to law school with Daddy.

  5. Lol thats normal! Its your body acting like a girl! When i first got married i was the same way! I just wanted a little baby! Its so wondeful to know that you can bring a life to this world and you have the man to do it!
mmm less sex no that does not have to happen you just have to make sure its a priority in your life and you will make it happen!! I don't think we have sex any less then we used to and we are deffinatly above the average! Babies are GREAT and WONDERFUL! but enjoy some time together first you need that time as a couple to learn and grow, don't get prego tell after your first anniversary!!!
Havening a baby has nothing to do with being a feminist, your a women and thats part of it! :) You can always make school and everything work, having a baby is part of the Lords plan and things just always seem to fall into place :)

  6. ok, Caitlin, I can solve this problem for you easily....6 months of vomiting(minimum) 3 months of being kicked in the ribs when you have finally found a comfortable sleeping position, leaving you to toss and turn all night. 12 am, 3am, and 6 am feedings(all with diaper changes) being spit up on, pooped on, peed on, and have green beans and rice cereal sneezed and spit all over you. No sleep, no sex. Blood pressure at stage 1 and 2 hypertension levels, praying every day just for the baby to stay in you, then praying every day for this thing to GET OUT. 14 hours of labor with 2 1/2 hours of pushing with half an epidural to deliver a baby that doesn`t look like you, only to throw up (twice) that Dr. Pepper you waited all day for. On a more positive note, it is amazing how totally worth it it all is, BUT WAIT. Enjoy your time alone, because it is irreplaceable and priceless. Love you Caitlin!

  7. True, I can see now why date nights are so important and spending time together is SO important. But so is a sense of humor, I mean we are happier now than we were when we were first married, and at that, dating.

AND WAIT. You can be a mama activista. I am. urbanmamas.com. You can be an ObamaMama. I am. You can be a feminist. I am. In fact mama feminists are the best kind. Because their hearts belong to their children and that gives parents the power! Finishing college does sound like a good goal.

I went to college when I was pregnant and it was harder than I imagined. And finishing up a few terms for my degree is hard but it is attainable. I have a few mama friend students who are doing the same thing or thinking of it. You can balance life, its trickier, but it can be done. And it is being done by mama activistas around the globe.

Just don't be hard on yourself and do the best you can, and the rest just happens.
